David Goodson has more than 35 years of experience working with wealthy families and foundations on a broad range of investment issues, including security selection, portfolio design, and implementation of investment management best practices. As the firm’s Chief Investment Officer, he plays a key role in determining asset allocation and investment strategies for the firm.

Prior to forming Proffitt & Goodson, Inc. in 1986, David was a financial consultant with Shearson Lehman Brothers, Inc., providing financial consulting and investment advice to high-net-worth individuals, foundations, and corporations.

David earned a BS and an MBA in economics and finance from the University of Tennessee, Knoxville. 

He is a Chartered Financial Analyst charter holder and a member of the CFA Institute, a global association of investment professionals who hold the Chartered Financial Analyst designation. He also is a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (CPA-Inactive)

David has served in various community roles over the years. He is currently a board member and the investment committee chair for the Holston Foundation, a board member and treasurer of Scenic Knoxville, Inc., and the chair of the Church Street UMC Endowment Committee.
